Souk Kitchen: A Middle Eastern Culinary Tour

Spread the love

An exciting email landed in my inbox this week., from North Street’s Souk Kitchen. Over the next few months, the restaurant will be hosting three special evenings for interested diners, promising to take them on a culinary tour of various Middle Eastern cuisines…

Opening only last year, Souk Kitchen has seen rapid success, being hailed as “the best new restaurant to open this year so far” in August by the Bristol Evening Post. Head chef Darren Lovell and his wife Ella’s aim was to bring Middle Eastern street food to the casual diner, with Darren’s travels in the region and Ella’s Iranian background (her father is Ghullam Narimani, owner of Ceiturica, which was previously on this site) providing the inspiration.

“We want to move away entirely from what people expect from a Middle Eastern restaurant – we wanted to create something colourful, vivid and visually exciting”, says Darren. The evenings planned over the next few months should certainly help them to achieve this. Each month, Souk Kitchen will host an evening showcasing the cuisine of a particular country or region. Diners will not only be treated to a five course meal, but will also have the benefit of Darren’s extensive knowledge as he brings the history of Middle Eastern cooking to life.

The journey begins with Iran (February 23rd), followed by Turkey (March 30th) and Lebanon (date tbc). Tickets are fantastically priced at £20 per head, and are available by phoning on 0117 9666880, or emailing soukkitchenbriz@gmail.com.
