If you want to learn the secrets of Indian cookery, join Welsh Back restaurant Myristica for one of their cookery classes under the tutelage of head chef Bhaskar Pillai. You’ll learn to make breads, starters, curries and desserts…and get to eat your creations too!

The classes begin with the basics, namely identifying and preparing herbs, spices and marinades, before making (and eating!) two classic starters: shish kebabs and vegetable pakoras.

Pillai will then demonstrate how to make two of Myristica’s most popular curry dishes: a Chicken Tikka Masala and a Prawn Chettinad (wild black tiger prawns cooked with roasted fennel, peppercorns and curry leaves), along with a side of taka dahl. While your curries are cooking, you’ll have the chance to make naan breads, which you’ll have alongside your curry and complimentary drinks.

The evening will then end with the creation of one of Myristica’s favourite desserts: the chocolate samosa.

You can book the course, which lasts for up to three hours, for just £50 per head (or £80 per couple), with the price including tuition, ingredients, soft drinks, wine or beer with the meal, and a goodie bag to take home, containing a starter pack of spices, recipe cards and vouchers.

To book, head into Myristica at 51 Welsh Back, or phone Amit Lakhani on 0117 927 2277.
