This May, beer lovers will be able to enjoy all of the atmosphere of a traditional Oktoberfest without needing to leave Bristol!
Bristol’s German Beer Fest, taking place between May 3rd and 7th 2012, will provide a host of German beers and traditional dishes to over 5,000 visitors over the five day period. Fischer Helles, Erdinger Weissbrau, bratwurst and pretzels, to name just a few, will be accompanied by the Edelweiss Bavarian Show Band, magicians, a DJ and plenty of traditional costumes!
The event is being organised by businessman and event organiser Philip Marsh, after deciding that this type of event was missing from the UK’s festival calendar. He wanted to create an experience that would not only offer a fantastic day of entertainment but will become an annual event for everyone to keep in their diaries. In addition to Bristol, this year’s calendar also includes Cardiff, Southampton and Reading.
Says Philip, “The event will promote business in the area with over 50 temporary jobs being created at the venue. We’ve also made a lot of strong relationships with other businessmen to spread the success of the event. We are being supported by local businesses from marquee suppliers, taxi firms to catering and refrigeration. All we now need is to see if the Bristol folk know how to party!”
The festival will take place at the Amphitheatre (next to the Lloyds Banking Group offices), with tickets priced at £12 online or £16 on the door. Corporate and group packages will also be available – for full details, see www.beerfestuk.com.
Another event in the concrete lake/car park vibe of the ampitheatre *cuh* when will people learn it's not a great venue!
As a proud Bavarian from Munich I'm delighted to be able to show off my Dirndl in Bristol. Lets just hope it won't be one of those tacky attempts to replicate Munich's Oktoberfest.
