The TownHouse bar and restaurant on Whiteladies Road (previously The Picture House East) is celebrating the launch of its new look by returning its prices to those of a pre-war Britain – offering lunches for just £2 and in the evening, 2 courses for £2 and 3 courses for £3 for a 3 week period.

The promotion will run from Monday 23 January to Friday 10 February (excluding Saturdays and Sundays). £2 lunches are available between 12 and 1pm. From 6pm each evening, the first 15 diners will qualify for the ‘Pre-war’ priced 2 for £2 / 3 for £3 offer. After that, the next 15 through the door can enjoy ‘Swinging 60s’ prices of 2 courses for £5 and 3 courses for £8. Each evening, after the promotional covers have been filled, the usual set menu price of 2 courses for £10 will return. 8 spaces have been allocated for reservations each night but they must be booked to dine at 6pm and contain a maximum of 4 people in any single booking.

The TownHouse bar and restaurant offers contemporary British food and classic regional dishes, with an emphasis on local produce. Samples from their set menu include brown Windsor soup with fried onions and hangar steak with hand cut chips, red wine and shallot gravy and from their lunch menu, leek and mushroom shepherds pie with red cabbage.

Head chef Nick Armitage said, ‘I love what we’re doing here, we’ve taken the best bits from The Picture House and created a new identity around our love for all things British past and present. As a thanks to our old customers and to encourage new ones, we’re offering a chance each day to experience our food at pocket money prices, enabling as many people as possible to try it, without having to spend too much after Christmas. Hopefully, once they’ve had a taste, they’ll be back month after month!’
