Henry Herbert, the nation’s favourite butcher, has created a host of austerity-busting recipes to help cash-strapped families celebrate National Butchers’ Week 2012, which takes place between March 25-31.
Henry – who is back at his chopping board after starring in the popular Channel 4 series The Fabulous Baker Brothers with his brother Tom – is backing the fifth annual National Butchers’ Week with four recipes that promise to brighten up any table. All the recipes are from the book accompanying the TV series, featuring cheap cuts of meat that can be found in any local butcher, and all using ingredients that cost just a few pounds.
For those looking for an inspirational lunch or tea-time snack that really is a break from the norm, there’s the delicious Devilled Lamb’s Kidneys or Pate de Campagne. Meanwhile, for those looking for a hearty feast or to impress at a dinner party, there’s a warming traditional Cassoulet. And last but not least, there are Henry’s easy-to-prepare Slider Burgers, which promise to be a sure fire hit with all the family.
Henry, who runs Hobbs House Butchery alongside Tom’s Hobbs House Bakery in Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire, says: “National Butchers’ Week is a great event for everyone to get involved in and an opportunity for people to remember the great service and array of meats that can be found at the local butcher.
“It’s also a great opportunity for us butchers to remind people of the expertise we have to offer, including knowledge we are just bursting to share about different cuts of meat and how to prepare them. National Butchers’ Week is also an opportunity for us to remind everyone how great tasting, home-made dishes using meats that can sometimes only be found at your local butcher don’t have to cost the earth and often just a couple of pounds.”
