Charles Metcalfe’s top tips on the perfect wine and food pairings

Those of you who attended the Foodies Festival on Bristol’s Harbourside between July 13th and 15th may have been lucky enough to take part in one of Charles Metcalfe’s wine and food pairing sessions held at various times over the weekend.

Charles is co-founder of Wine International Magazine, and former wine expert on Richard & Judy’s “This Morning”. As well as being the Honorary President of the Association Of Wine Educators and Chairman Of Judges for the Louis Roederer International Wine Writers’ Awards, he has also authored “The Wine & Food Lover’s Guide To Portugal”

While at the Foodies Festival, Charles filmed a short online video for Bristol Bites, giving his tips on which foods go best with which wines, and how you can make a difference when serving at home. For the video, Charles was working with Discover the Origin: a European Union campaign designed to raise awareness around five Protected Destination of Origin (PDO) products, namely Burgundy wines, Parma ham, Douro wines, Parmiggiano-Reggiano cheese and Port.

A spokesperson from the Discover the Origin campaign said, “The Bristol Foodies Festival offers a wonderful opportunity to interact with consumers who are keen to discover our products and learn more about the notion of provenance. This year we are excited to have one of the UK’s biggest names in food and wine to talk about the Discover the Origin products, provide tips on best ways to fully enjoy them and highlight what makes them so special.”
