Degustabox: Review

There are a lot of subscription-based foodie packages out there now, and the latest one that I have been asked to review is the Degustabox. New to the UK, Degustabox is a monthly surprise box (well…if you don’t look at the list of brands on their website!) that aims to connect consumers with a number of new brands and products that they may not have previously come across. Every month, subscribers can expect their box to include products from between six and eight different brands, and I was sent their first ever box to review.

Products included within the Degustabox are estimated to be worth at least twice the amount paid for the subscription. You’re looking at a cost of £9.99 for each box, plus £3 shipping, with the ability to sign up for 6 months prepaid at a discounted price. Automatic payments will be made on the 10th of each month (but you can cancel at any time) – and if you order before the 10th, you will receive your box in the same month, between the 25th and the 30th.

Emails are sent to let you know when the box is on its way to you…and so once you’ve paid, all you need to do is to sit back and wait for it to arrive! If you’re not a fan of surprises, you’ll be able to see the contents on the Degustabox website…but I decided to wait.

My Degustabox arrived well packed with degradable packing foam, and was topped with a piece of A4 card with pictures and descriptions of all of the products that were included.

I ignored this, though (still wanting the element of surprise!) and kept unpacking…to be faced with the following:

Degustabox contents

For £12.99, I thought the selection of products was reasonably good value for money, and there was only one item in the box that I had tried before.

The full list of products was as follows:

– Drink Me Chai Spiced Chai Latte

– Green & Blacks Spiced Chilli Chocolate

– Levi Roots Jerk Chicken Paste

– Levi Roots Smokey Jerk Sauce

– Yu! Healthy Snacks Granola & Mango Clusters

– Yu! Healthy Snacks Granola & Strawberry Clusters

– Belvita Breakfast Duo Crunch Apricot & Live Yogurt

– Belvita Breakfast Cocoa with Choc Chips Biscuits

– Bavaria Beer 0.0% Original

– Bavaria Beer Radler

– Bavaria Beer Shandy

– Bisto Chef’s Specials Lamb Gravy with a Twist of Mint

– Bisto Chef’s Specials Rich Beef Gravy with Cracked Black Pepper

– Bisto Chef’s Specials Caramelised Onion Gravy

– Bisto Chef’s Specials Chicken Gravy with Sage & Onion

– OXO Shake and Flavour Garlic & Herb

– Bisto Chicken Stock Melts

Quite a selection of different products, and the Chai Latte was the only one that I had tried (and loved) before. I’m not a beer drinker, but my other half has enjoyed Bavaria before, and we’ve had various Belvita products in the past but not these.

We’ve not used a huge number of the products yet, but absolutely loved the Jerk Paste, which had a beautiful kick to it and a lovely fruity flavour. We’ve also got through a few bags of the Yu! Healthy Snacks granola and mango variety, which are coated in yoghurt and absolutely beautiful.

There’s no denying that Degustabox are focusing on mainstream brands, which sets them apart from many of the other foodie subscription boxes out there. It’s a chance to try new and innovative products from brands that are well-established – and while you may think that some of the products aren’t to your personal taste, subscribers have the chance to fill out a taste profile when they register to ensure that boxes are tailored more to their tastes.

If you’re interested in giving Degustabox a go, visit the website by clicking here to find out more. And as a special offer for Bristol Bites readers, you can get £3 off your first order by using the code bristolbites999 in the “promotional code” box when you place your order.

Please note: this box was received free of charge, but in no way impacted on our opinion. We were not obliged to write a positive review, and the company did not see this review before it was put up on the site.
