Still enjoying all that the Bristol Food Connections festival has to offer? If that’s the case, then head down to Anchor Square today for the West & Wales heat of the prestigious British Street Food Awards.

Bristol has a lot to live up to at this year’s awards, with the local Katie and Kim’s Kitchen having won the “Best of the Best” prize at last year’s awards, and Bristol Eats having won the “Best Street Food Collective” prize.

On Saturday, May 10th, from 11am until 7pm, street food traders from across the west and Wales will be competing in one of seven regional heats in a bid to take home one of the coveted awards. The regional heats are a new thing for 2014, and the Anchor Square event will be free to visit, and will include a bar and live music from Becca Philip, The Hot Tin Roofs, Jim Evans and Poor Old Dogs.

To make the heat even more interactive, it’s the punters who will be asked to vote for their favourite trader, via the British Street Food mobile phone app (you can download the iPhone version here, and the Android version here). The regional winner will be announced live at the event, and will be given a Golden Ticket through to the British Street Food Awards finals, which will take place in Leeds.

So, who’s actually taking part in the heats? Expect to find Burger Theory, Bertha’s Pizza, Vee Double Moo, The Philly Cheese Steak Co, The Cauldron, Hickory Pig, American Kitchen, Dorshi, The Spanish Buffet, The Coffee Camper, Margarita’s Fajitas & Tacos, Eat The Smoke, La Bonne Crepe and Gopal’s Curry Shack.

It promises to be a great day out – head on over and sample some street food for yourself!
