We wrote previously about the fact that Alex Major and the team at The Famous Royal Navy Volunteer were planning on taking over The Hophouse in Clifton – and the day has finally come. Bringing quality UK craft beer and a new take on casual fine dining to Clifton Village, The Nettle & Rye opens on Thursday, October 29th.

The name embodies the team’s approach to food and drink – shunning words such as “locally-sourced” and “seasonal”, which are now bandied about regularly, they wanted the name to express their commitment to food that really does come from the top local suppliers, from the chefs’ foraging trips and from a truly seasonal standpoint.

The restaurant upstairs will change each season: the name, decor, menu and look and feel will be refreshed as the seasons change to reflect what that time of the year is all about.

Says Alex, “We have already built a reputation for beers from UK only craft brewers, taking those ethics through to the food seemed a natural step. Locally sourced and seasonal food is easy to do, but difficult to do well. We wanted to show our commitment by completely changing the restaurant each season, really make each season something to celebrate. It will be much more fun, too!”

Be sure to head down for the opening weekend to enjoy the following treats…
