Award-winning organic vegetable box delivery service The Community Farm is inviting people in the South West to enjoy a hands-on Harvest this autumn by spending the day at its beautiful 15-acre farm near the Chew Valley Lake.

Green-fingered visitors of all ages can help to pick and harvest crops including squash, kale and leeks during three Community Farmer Days on Saturday 8th October, Saturday 22nd October and Saturday 12th November.

The Community Farm believe that it’s a great way for people to feel closer to the land, and mark the changing of the seasons – and those who take part will also be able to try the produce for themselves.

The 15 acre farm has amazing views across the Chew Valley, and as well as growing organic fruit and veg, there’s plenty of wildlife from badgers and deer to lapwings and buzzards. The Community Farm is a non-profit social enterprise owned by the local community, and all of its profits are ploughed back into learning experiences and activities for adults and children.

All three Community Farmer Days run from 10am-4pm, with a hearty soup lunch provided and free minibus from Bristol available (booking advised). Children are very welcome. For more information, click here.

For those who would prefer not to get their hands dirty, the farm will also host a Harvest gathering lunch on Saturday 1st October, running from 11am to 3pm.

“We’ll be stoking up the barbecue and cob oven, and making pizza and salad using fresh crops from the field,” says Ped Asgarian, the farm’s managing director.

The free minibus service from central Bristol will also operate for the Harvest gathering – click here for more details.
