Bristol food lovers will have the chance to find out how city dwellers can help revolutionise the way we grow, buy and think about food at an upcoming event to be held at Wapping Wharf on Thursday 16 February, from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Members of The Community Farm, an organic social enterprise farm just outside Bristol, will be sharing their story at the Wapping Wharf branch of Better Food. The event will show how each and every one of us can contribute to transforming our food and farming system, and how forward-thinking farms like The Community Farm can help us to do this.

The Community Farm is a social enterprise owned by hundreds of local people. It grows and sells healthy, locally-sourced and organic food, and is managed in a way that promotes the health and wellbeing of local people and local wildlife.

Hundreds of people have a share in The Community Farm. Profits from its organic box delivery service are ploughed back into its mission of bringing people closer to the land and the food they eat. This includes learning experiences and activities for local children, adults and vulnerable people, as well as activities to help wildlife thrive around the farm.

The event will feature the following:

  • An introduction by Ped Asgarian, The Community Farm’s Managing Director, with an overview of the farm, and its approach to farming and retailing food.
  • Angela Raffle will explain how individuals can play an important role in creating a food and farming system that works for all.
  • Sarah Pitt will explore nature-friendly farming and how we can view the farm as a kind of nature reserve, where birds, beetles, mammals and amphibians can live their lives alongside ours.

The event is free and will be held at Better Food, Wapping Wharf, BS1 6WE at 6pm on Thursday 16 February. Please email the farm to let them know you are planning to come along: farming@thecommunityfarm.co.uk.
