Bristol Cookhouse

The Bristol Cookhouse is now open on Gloucester Road, offering breakfast and lunch, evening pop-ups and a fully-equipped food studio.

Located at no. 405 Gloucester Road (where Rainbow Wools used to be), The Bristol Cookhouse is the brainchild of nutritional chef Sam Waterhouse. After many years spent travelling the world catering for high-profile clients, Sam returned to the UK, gained her MSc. in Nutrition and now runs food and cookery workshops in Bristol from the Gloucester Road base as well as the day-to-day running of The Cookhouse. She then spends the rest of her time keeping fashion and music celebrities on the straight and narrow by filling their kitchens with healthy menus.

Sam says, ‘Born in Malaysia I returned to the UK and grew up not far from here. My great-grandfather was a master baker and confectioner just down the road on Newfoundland Street during World War 2. My overriding childhood memories are of watching him decorate elaborate cakes, helping in his kitchen and collecting armfuls of fresh produce from his vegetable garden. I was always destined to have a career in food, and I’m so pleased that it’s now back in Bristol.’

The Cookhouse combines a fully-equipped food studio (class list available here), beautiful private dining club and vibrant weekday canteen with an open-plan kitchen where diners can enjoy a range of dishes. The Canteen is open for breakfast and lunch and healthy snacks, plus hot drinks are served throughout the day. Opening hours are from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and 11am to 6pm on Sundays.

By night the Canteen closes its doors and the Cookhouse takes on a new persona, with a whole host of globally-inspired supper clubs and pop-up diners. You can see a calendar of upcoming events on their website here.

The Bristol Cookhouse can also be hired for private events, workshops and community classes.
