Great Food 2 U - Cyprus Kitchen - Wrap

Please note: our meal kit from Great Food 2 U was received free of charge, but this in no way impacted on our opinion. We were not obliged to write a positive review, and the brand did not see this review before it was put up on the site.

Who’s been out for a meal since restaurants, cafés and pubs reopened?

I’ve been out for lunch once, but I still can’t say that I’m 100% comfortable with the idea of sitting in an enclosed public place to eat as yet. I’ve been doing plenty of cooking at home (and we’ve had our fair share of takeaways), but for those looking to replicate the restaurant experience in the comfort of their own home, there are other options.

One of these is the meal kits from Great Food 2 U. Working with a bunch of (predominantly London-based) independent restaurants, the Great Food 2 U team offer a range of DIY recipe boxes, delivered to your front door for you to recreate for yourself.

There’s a variety of options on offer: Mexican food from Benito’s, jerk chicken from White Men Can’t Jerk, Venezuelan food from Arepa & Co, burgers from Bleecker and curries from Spice Box, to name but a few. But I fancied going for something closer to my part-Cypriot roots…

Street food brand Cyprus Kitchen is known for its appearances at London’s KERB street food markets, dishing up pita pouches and salad boxes packed with chicken, lamb, halloumi, aubergine, salads and homemade dips. At Great Food 2 U, you can choose a chicken, lamb kofte and halloumi wrap kit for either two (£17.50) or four (£30.00) people, delivered straight to your door.

Once you’ve added the recipe kit of your choice to your online basket, you can choose to add any extras you want (drinks, chips, desserts) before checking out, selecting your delivery date – up to four weeks in advance.

Our verdict…

The Cyprus Kitchen recipe kit was packaged well, wrapped in Woolcool insulated packaging to keep the ingredients cold, and with individual items well sealed to prevent any leakage. And the ingredients looked incredible, too: big fluffy flatbreads, a tray of pre-made chicken and lamb kofte skewers, a block of halloumi, plus tzatziki, pickled cabbage, za’atar, Aleppo chilli flakes and fresh parsley.

The instructions were also lovely and clear, making it easy for us to create our Cypriot masterpiece.

And I think you’ll agree, it did look like a restaurant-quality meal once cooked and assembled!

The lamb, while fatty, lost much of this fat in the cooking process, leaving it nice and tender, and it was packed full of herbs and spices. We loved the fact that dark meat had been used for the chicken skewers, giving them plenty of flavour, and I’m always going to be happy when halloumi is involved!

The pickled cabbage was tangy and fruity, and we loved the Cyprus Kitchen tzatziki: fresh and herby, and studded with plenty of thin slivers of cucumber. And that wrap? That was incredible: so dense and chewy, and the perfect vehicle for the contents – it didn’t get soggy or disintegrate at all.

Personally, I loved it: the meal and the concept were both right up my street. It’s a great way to support restaurants even if you don’t feel confident enough to go out to eat just yet, and the pricing is pretty reasonable, too. Have a look at their website to find out what else is on offer – and if you’re a food business looking to expand your offering, drop them a line – they’re always looking for more businesses to partner with!
