Jigaraki opens at CARGO, Wapping Wharf, this Friday

On Friday, August 21st, CARGO at Wapping Wharf will become home to Persian and Middle Eastern-inspired trader, Jigaraki.

After five years of feeding customers at festivals such as Latitude and Houghton, Ben Williams’ Jigaraki promises to bring “Persian and Middle Eastern flavours through honest, wholesome, taste-driven food but with their unique twist” to CARGO.

The name is derived from small Iranian food stalls, and Ben says the idea for his business came from one such stall he stumbled across in Isfahan, Iran. He says, “It was hospitality at its purest, no table linens or silver service. It was simply about the food and the people. There was a vibrant atmosphere with an eclectic mix of people popping in and out, all brought together by the delicious food. Our new premises at CARGO is the perfect opportunity to recreate that”.

The menu will feature ethically sourced, quality produce, with a range of grilled and slow-cooked meats packed with fragrant spices, plus various exciting vegetarian and vegan options. There’s the Saffron Chicken (marinated in saffron, lemon and yoghurt and chargrilled, served with pickled cucumber and zhoug) and the Fennel and Courgette (braised and served with lemon verbena, pickled celery and a preserved lemon and sour grape sauce) for a start. There will also be plenty of regularly-changing specials and one-off items that will include Jigaraki’s take on classic Iranian dishes, and there will be something for all dietary requirements.

Ben adds, “I couldn’t be more excited to have the opportunity to open amongst so many great independent businesses in such an amazing location. The energy within the CARGO community and the customers is magnetic. We will, of course, be putting customers first with safety being paramount, delivering above any minimum government requirements for COVID 19 safety.

“The festival season disappeared almost overnight this year, but you can’t keep a good thing down for long. We hope you will join us as a new door opens for Jigaraki and allow us to re-jig your taste buds.”
