When you’re invited to a menu tasting, it’s rude to say no, isn’t it! Recently, a group of us headed over to The Living Room to sample tasters of some of the dishes from their new Winter menu.

While some of the favourites remain in place, new dishes have arrived on the A La Carte menu – and with a distinctly wintry feel. Butternut and sage risotto with blue cheese, a lamb hotpot with black pudding and a celeriac and spinach layered pasta with a mushroom dressing are among the new dishes that grace the menu, along with a new ‘To Share’ section.

Perfect as a light bite or to share as a starter, this includes an antipasto selection with olives and chunky tomato houmous, a whole baked Camembert, and a beautifully presented tapas board.

Of all of the tasters that we sampled, I’d definitely recommend the ham and eggs with a twist from the Home Comforts menu. The gammon steak, priced at £10.25, is served with chips as standard, but also a play on the traditional egg and pineapple – coming, instead, with fried quail’s egg and a pineapple salsa.

I’d also definitely recommend their dessert platter to share, which got a great reaction from people when I tweeted a photo from the tasting event! A board of rum and raisin creme brûlée, chocolate brownies, strawberry and chocolate fondue and blackberry and raspberry Eton mess with Cassis, there’s something there to suit all palates.

If you work nearby, you can enjoy their Express Lunch menu between 12 and 2pm, Monday to Friday. Divided into Nibbles, Small Plates, Sandwiches, Salads and Heartier Options, prices range from £2 to £8.

A Table D’Hote menu for early weekday diners (available between 3 and 7pm) and a Sunday Comforts menu complete the line up. And if drinks deals appeal to you more than food, them head down to The Living Room between 3 and 7pm on a weekday to enjoy selected Signature cocktails for just £3.95. I’d recommend the ‘Coca Chilli Crush’ – an intriguing blend of Agwa de Bolivia, St. Germain elderflower, cucumber, red chilli and Funkin peach purée.

And finally, if you’re in charge of organising your office Christmas party, have a chat with them about their Christmas packages. There are special benefits for January for the organiser…

Lots of changes from the Harbourside branch of the national chain – well worth a visit.
