Mulled cider – recipe courtesy of The Essex Cider Shop


4 pints of still medium/dry farmhouse cider
2 apples – washed, cored and sliced
2 oranges – washed and sliced
Juice and zest of 1 unwaxed lemon
10 whole allspice berries, slightly crushed
8 whole cloves
1 large or 2 small cinnamon sticks snapped in half
6 tbsp light soft brown sugar



Put all the ingredients into a stainless steel pan.
Cover and heat gently for a minimum of 1 hour. Do not allow it to boil.
Cool a little, sieve and serve.
