Brother and sister duo, Josh and Holly Eggleton were celebrating today as their Chew Magna pub, the Pony & Trap, scooped awards in two prestigious competitions.

In a ceremony on Monday 28th January, the Pony & Trap was named ‘Pub of the Year’ in Destination Bristol’s Tourism & Hospitality 2012 Awards.

Just hours earlier, the picturesque country pub had been named as the 12th best gastropub in the country as part of the Morning Advertiser’s Top 50 Gastropub Awards.

The Top 50 Gastropub Awards were based on votes cast by food experts including chefs, food writers and pub guide editors from all over the country.

Commenting, Front of House Manager Holly Eggleton, said:

“To be named Bristol’s ‘Pub of the Year’ and also one of the country’s best in the same day is just amazing. We thought being named the nation’s 12th best gastropub was a great achievement in itself, but to come back to Bristol and be recognised for our work is the icing on the cake. As always, thanks must go to our staff for all their dedication and hardwork over the year”

Head Chef and Co-owner Josh Eggleton said:

“It’s always nice to win awards from top organisations like the Morning Advertiser and Destination Bristol – it shows us that we’re doing things in the right way. But we can always improve and next year we’ll have to aim make the top 10 nationwide!”

“Despite difficult economic circumstances, Bristol’s food industry is thriving so we’re humbled to be named pub of the year. We’re now hoping we make the shortlist to fly the flag for Bristol at the Visit England national awards.”
