The River Grille at The Bristol Hotel has launched its summer menu, introducing a selection of lighter meals for the warmer months, while retaining a focus on regional foods. All of the dishes bear the innovative touches for which Executive Chef Matt Lord, a finalist in the Best Chef category of the 2014 Bristol Good Food Awards, has become known.

The salad section of the menu includes perennial favourites like Caesar Salad, as well as a Superfood Salad with blueberries, seeds and quinoa for those wishing to keep up with the latest health trends; prices start at £5.95 for a starter salad and £8.95 for a main-course salad. A selection of sandwiches is also on offer for those wanting something small and quick to eat, such as the much-loved Croque Monsieur (served with onion marmalade) at £6.50 and an Earl Grey tea-smoked salmon wrap with dill crème fraiche at £7.45.

Starters, sharing platters and mains include dishes that make the most of the region’s produce. For example, Lightly Smoked Cornish Mackerel with a pickled vegetable salad and pomegranate dressing at £6.95, Bristol Cured Meat Board (with local salami, lomo and chorizo, plus home pickles) at £10.95 and Rump & Shoulder of Nailsea Lamb with heritage carrots and baby gem at £18.95.

Puddings lean towards the fruity and have a real British flavour: the Trio of Iced Summer Puddings (a Neapolitan parfait, a 99 flake and an Arctic roll) is priced at £5.50, while an Elderflower & Buttermilk Panna Cotta with poached strawberries is £5.95. Once again, regional produce is to be found in the West Country Cheese board, served with Bramley apple chutney and oat cakes, costing £8.50.
