July 2015 Degustabox: Review

Spread the love

With holidays and deadlines getting in the way, this Degustabox review’s a bit late. Oops. Better late than never, though – so here are my thoughts on this edition of the monthly food and drink subscription box that’s priced at just £12.99 per month, including delivery…

July 2015 Degustabox - All contents

Beginning with the drinks, I loved the Jele Beautie blackcurrant drink that was included in this month’s box. Presented in a resealable pouch, this blackcurrant drink is full of flavour and packed full of vitamins. It also includes small pieces of jelly that give it an almost bubble tea-like texture. It’s very sweet, but also refreshing and low in calories – I approve!

I also received a bottle of strawberry Lambrini (RRP £3.29). I’ve tried this before, and it’s far too sweet and far too artificial in its flavour for me, so I’m passing it on to a friend…

I quite enjoyed the Newton’s Appl Fizzics drink (RRP £1.20): a fizzy apple juice (though not overly so) with no added sugar or preservatives. While it’s made from concentrate, it still has a lovely sweet and refreshing flavour.

The Weetabix On The Go drinks (RRP £1.49 each) are great for people like me who often forget breakfast or need something on the go. Surprisingly, they don’t actually taste like Weetabix – these very thick chocolate and vanilla shakes are lovely and filling and packed full of protein, energy and fibre.

The two packs of Fru Snax (RRP £1.25 each) were probably among my favourite items in July’s Degustabox. Comprising freeze dried fruit and yoghurt pieces, each pack has just 45 calories, making them ideal for a sin-free snack. The freeze dried strawberry and fig pieces were lovely and chewy, while the yoghurt melts had a lovely tang and dissolved in the mouth.

Made from cold pressed hemp seeds, this Good Oil hemp oil is expensive at £4.49 but I love it. It has 40% less saturated fat than olive oil and is packed full of Omega 3. It has a lovely nutty, seeded flavour that not only makes it great for cooking, but also perfect for adding flavour to salads.

The Say Yes to No toasted bread chips (RRP £1.49) were another winner: sour cream and onion flavoured toasted bread chips that were incredibly moreish. While the bag was only half full (I hate it when companies do that!!) the huge amount of flavour with nothing artificial made up for it.

The Taking the Pea wasabi coated peas (RRP £1.50 per packet) were also a bit of a treat. The first brand of flavoured peas to be created in the UK, they also come in a range of other flavours, including cheese & onion, and ham. Unlike other wasabi peas we’ve tried before, these had a fantastic kick – we loved them!

The Tasty Little Numbers ready meals (RRP £3.49 each) seem VERY steeply priced for what they are. With no need to chill, the ability to cook in either the microwave or the oven and at only 200 calories per pot, they’re billed as ideal for holidays and work and for dieters, but they just didn’t do it for me. The chicken tikka masala pot was far too sweet, while the beef sausage pot contained far too much liquid, and the sausages were disappointing: under-seasoned and with a very strange texture.

A positive experience with this month’s Degustabox, on the whole – while there were a couple of items that we weren’t so keen on, we were impressed overall. We’ll certainly be buying some of the snack products again – and the hemp oil was a revelation! To sign up to Degustabox, visit www.degustabox.com.

Please note: this box was received free of charge, but in no way impacted on our opinion. We were not obliged to write a positive review, and the company did not see this review before it was put up on the site.
