The team behind Sticks and Broth, Baowow and The Hanoi Coffee Company are set to open a new, flagship restaurant at the landmark former Byzantium site under Genting Casino: Bangkok Joe’s.

Bangkok Joe’s will focus on modern Thai cuisine with French and European influences in a menu that fuses the best of the Far East with Bristol’s tradition for high quality, locally sourced ingredients. Owner Som Miller said “Thai food really lends itself to fresh ingredients. It’s steeped strong traditions in street food, colourful flavours and everything being cooked with fresh and vibrant ingredients. Thai food helps quality ingredients really sing – and Bristol has the right suppliers to make that happen.”

The look inside has been transported four thousand miles to the south east, but focuses on an immersive experience in the best of Bangkok. Diners, drinkers and snackers can enjoy the plush lounge and noodle bar style high tables or relax upstairs in in the opulent but airy restaurant as they watch the chefs flash knives, pans and woks to ignite the flavours in the accessible and varied menu.

“There’s such a history on this site for a dynamic dining experience with great service; we want to continue the tradition of being one of Bristol’s iconic sites, but add a more flexible approach to lunch as well as being a the community restaurant we think the area really needs”, said Som.

“At night, people will be immersed in the Bangkok restaurant scene, with a vivid menu and caring service – at lunch we want to ban floppy sandwiches one lunchbox at a time”.

Genting Casino have been waiting a long time to find the right people to work alongside them. “Everyone in Bristol remembers Byzantium, so it was important to us to wait for something of the same quality. We have had plenty of offers for the site, but we really wanted to work with Som and the team, and with South East Asian food being in vogue, it seemed the perfect time to bring the site back to life” said manager James Harvey.

Bangkok Joe’s will launch on Saturday 2nd April, with a Thai dragon parade, a blessing by Buddhist Monks and, of course, a party!
