The owners of Bristol Cider Shop have announced that it is to move from its iconic Christmas Steps location, where it has been since it opened 5 years ago, to Cargo, the new shipping container development at Wapping Wharf.

The shop will move into a double unit in the new development, which will be a hub for local independent food and drink businesses. Along with a brand new location, the move will also mean a larger space to run cider tastings, which have become a core part of the business.

The Christmas Steps shop will close its doors on Saturday 2nd July with a party to ‘drink the shop dry’, and the new shop will open a week later on Saturday 9th July.

Owner Pete Snowman said, “We’re really excited and sad at the same time! Our tastings have really taken off and the shop is tiny so we can only fit a few people in at a time. Cargo will give us a much better space for events – and it will be great to be part of what’s shaping up to be an awesome food and drink scene there. At the same time we’re gutted to be leaving Christmas Steps!”

To celebrate the move, the team are launching a brand new cider, which will be the flagship cider for the new shop. It will be Bristol-themed, with the labels being designed by local artist Simon Tozer, who is famous for his strawberry Gromit and raspberry Shaun the Sheep designs.

Cider tastings will continue at the Christmas Steps shop until the end of June and there will be a whole new programme of events from July, including after-work tastings every Friday night, cider and food pairing evenings, cider dinners and ‘Meet the Producer’ sessions, as well as private tastings and events.

The team are now looking for a manager to run the new shop and want someone in place in time for the launch. They are looking for someone with a passion for food and drink that can help take the business through this new exciting chapter in its history.
