Beautiful South

There’s an exciting collaboration taking place at the Milk Thistle this September, when James Bridges and Alex Bluett take a culinary journey spanning two continents in The Beautiful South.

The two freelance chefs – James, who’s most recently worked at The Inn at Welland in Worcestershire and Alex, previously resident chef at The Old Bookshop – will be cooking modern British interpretations of classic dishes from the American South, spanning everything from the Louisiana Bayou to coastal Georgia and Carolina. James grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and Alex originally hails from Cornwall, and they’ll be using ingredients from our south for the menu from the US south, including meat and fish from ethical and sustainable suppliers.

Tickets for the event are priced at £40 each. The evening begins with a cocktail from the Milk Thistle, and nibbles of fried green tomatoes. The rest of the menu reads as follows…

“Brunswick Stew” – Beef shin, charred corn, heritage tomato, beef tea
OR
Vegetable terrine, charred corn, heritage tomato, tomato tea

—–

Blackened monkfish, slow cooked sprout tops, chow chow, country ham, dill oil
OR
Ewes cheese, saffron fondant, slow cooked sprout tops, chow chow, dill oil

—–

Pork belly, creamed beans, sweetcorn Johnny cake, red eye gravy
OR

—–

Sweetcorn & buttermilk pannacotta, pumpkin caramel, cobnut praline
