There’s a concept that’s totally new to Bristol coming this December, when Edit Bristol opens on Cheltenham Road as the city’s first audiophile bar and kitchen…

While it’s a new concept to Bristol, audiophile bars have been an integral part of Tokyo’s food and drinks scene for many years, and you’ll now find versions in London, most notably with Spiritland in Kings Cross, and Brilliant Corners in Dalston. Essentially, it’s all about enjoying food, drink and good conversation with friends or family while listening to music on a beautiful sound system – and owners Dan and Rhiannon Wild wanted to bring a piece of the action to Bristol.

Dan has run institutional Bristol club event Just Jack for 12 years, and along with his wife Rhiannon and head chef Michiel Pel, he’ll be coming to 239 Cheltenham Road (formerly the home of Italian restaurant Amici) to give Bristol their own take on the audiophile bar.

Expect a sound system that comprises Klipsch’s ‘heritage’ range of audiophile speakers, along with hand-built tube amplifiers and a rotary DJ mixer from Alpha Recording Systems that’ll create, say the team, ‘an audio experience which has its emphasis fully focused on sound quality and not on volume’.

From Thursday to Sunday, DJs will play six hour sets that take listeners on a journey through ambient, jazz, electronica, funk, soul and world music from across the globe.

Along with the music, there’ll be table service for both food and drinks: the latter comprising an extensive Sake menu along with wines, cocktails plus homemade non-alcoholic drinks and infusions designed to complement the food. On the food front, the Edit Bristol team promise innovative Asian small plates: think dumplings and salads plus meat and fish dishes, all served from 12.30pm to 11pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
