One of Cheltenham’s best-loved restaurants is opening a Bristol branch on Gloucester Road on Friday, October 5th.

The Coconut Tree will open at 237-239 Gloucester Road in premises which were home to Italian restaurant Amici before it closed suddenly in November 2017. Italian will now no longer be the order of the day – it’s Sri Lankan street food for which The Coconut Tree is known.

Owned by a group of friends, The Coconut Tree team opened their first restaurant in Cheltenham in 2016, followed by Oxford late last year. Now, they’re venturing over to Bristol – and Gloucester Road will be the first of two restaurants in the city for the team.

Not had Sri Lankan food before? Don’t worry, you’ll find the menu on their website, packed with dishes such as their popular egg hoppers: bowl-shaped pancakes filled with coconut sambal, caramelised onions with cinnamon, a Sri Lankan salsa and an egg.

There are tons of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu, as well as dishes for meat and fish fans – and with the most expensive dish on the menu just £7.50, it’s a good excuse to bring friends along and try a variety.

Also on offer is a list of 12 Cocotails, with many featuring ingredients such as coconut, turmeric, cardamom and cinnamon for a hit of Sri Lankan flavour.

Bookings for the Gloucester Road branch of The Coconut Tree can now be made via their website – and with 50% off food for the opening weekend (October 5th to 8th) too. To book, click here – and follow them on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for updates and food photos!
