Bristol food poverty charity FareShare South West is calling on individuals who can regularly spare a day to join their team of volunteers as a driver or driver’s mate.

With increased surplus food available and rising demand for food support, the charity – which redistributes in-date surplus food to schools, charities and community groups across the South West – has an urgent need for volunteers.

They’re on the lookout for additional volunteer drivers and drivers’ mates, who are able to offer a regular volunteer shift to help to redistribute this surplus food to those in need across our region.

Julian Mines, FareShare South West CEO: “The reality is that demand for our service is increasing. More people are finding themselves vulnerable to food poverty, but by ensuring the surplus food we receive is delivered to our partner charities, schools and community groups, we can ensure thousands across our region do not have to face hunger. However, the only way we can continue to do this as a charity is if we have support from volunteers. Our current team are fantastic but with deliveries going out during the week and in the daytime, we need those who have the time to come forward and support us. In turn, you’ll be a central part of providing an essential service and one that supports the most vulnerable in our region. We’re not just in need of drivers, but also drivers’ mates who will assist with the delivery. If you think you might make a good candidate for this, we urge you to get in touch.”
