There’s a brand new café coming to The Royal West of England Academy (RWA) on Queens Road this August, when The Epiphany opens later this month.

It’s the brainchild of Bristol barista Alex Zeal – a finalist in the Bristol heats of the UK Barista Championships – and Bethen Reid, who creates cakes for the likes of Boston Tea Party and The Vintage Birdcage Cakery.

Located within Bristol’s oldest art gallery, The Epiphany will serve a contemporary menu that focuses on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients: for lunch, you’ll be able to enjoy everything from frittatas, tarts, wraps and salads to Hobbs House sandwiches filled with treats such as portobello mushrooms, mozzarella, red onion pickle and olive tapenade.

Bethen’s sweet treats are inspired by memories of and recipes passed down from her grandmother, and include her tarte aux cerises, plum and strawberry madeleines, and friands flavoured with pistachio, blueberry, matcha, orange and dark chocolate.

As you’d expect, with Alex’s credentials, coffee will be a big deal at The Epiphany too. He’ll be sourcing his own beans in Peru shortly before the café opens – and there will also be wines, local beers and Canton teas on offer.

There’s a grand opening from 6pm on the evening of Thursday, August 24th, and everyone’s invited: there’ll be free espresso martinis, menu tasters and latte art lessons, and you’ll be able to view the current RWA exhibition free of charge too. Find more details on their Facebook event page
